The Importance of Diversity in the Workplace

Diversity in the workplace has many benefits that allow companies to excel on their business strategy. People from diverse backgrounds come with different perspectives, skills and experiences, allowing their unique thought process to support companies in developing a stronger culture and better products and services. These different backgrounds can reveal business opportunities, company pain points, and allow organizations to reach a global market. Based on research done by large consulting firms, it is proven that diversity in the workplace allows for creative and innovate ideas, higher employee engagement and better decision-making.

Diversity in the workplace is not something that can be achieved overnight. One of the most actionable ways that positive diversity change within the work environment can be accomplished is “Diversity Training”. This training specifically focusses on addressing some of the challenges that prevent employees to be accepting, respecting and understanding the differences among their colleagues. There are many long-term efficiency and financial benefits that come with putting an emphasis on integrating diversity into the workplace culture. Some simple actions that a company can take are moving away from prohibitive language, focusing on inclusion and confronting unconscious bias. There are a variety of ways that companies can implement different tactics to convey togetherness including gamification, microlearning, and mobile learning.

At Belmar, we value diversity. Currently, our team has individuals from many different cultural backgrounds that have brought a unique perspective to solution architecture, configuring, and managing client engagements. Through our various personal experiences and background, we have been able to better connect with our clients and strengthen our relationship as their trusted advisors. We consider our employees as the key to driving organizational success, and knowing each employee’s background and experiences have allowed us to all connect and learn from one another. We want to continue to grow in providing work opportunities to people from different background, elevating workplace diversity in the tech consulting industry.
